The EITC is a highly underused benefit for tax payers. Every year, thousands of dollars go unclaimed.

In 2009, the Manchester Tax Credit Coalition is continuing its campaign to have all eligible Town citizens claim the Earned Income Tax Credit.

What is the Earned Income Tax Credit?

The EITC is a tax benefit for working people with low or moderate incomes. Workers who qualify for the EITC, and file a federal tax return, can have some or all of the federal income tax that was taken out of thier pay during the year refunded to them.

More than one child Family income less than $38,646 ($41,646 for married filing jointly) Can claim up to $4,824
Houshold with one child Family income less than $33,995 ($36,995 for married filing jointly) Can claim up to $2,917
No children

Income less than $12,880 ($15,880 for married filing jointly)

Can claim up to $438

NO-COST INCOME TAX SERVICES OFFERED IN 2009

There are several options available to file your simple income tax returns FREE OF CHARGE.  The focus is on low to middle income families, older adults and individuals in need of assistance.

Manchester Senior Center: Wed Evenings & Saturdays

Town of Manchester VITA Site.  By appointment only.   Bring all tax information with you.  If you have used this service in the past, please bring your computer disc or forms from last year.  Open to senior citizens with low to moderate income, and low-income families and individuals (you do not have to be a Senior Center member). To make an appointment, call 647-3092 between the hours of 8am and 12pm Monday through Friday.

Manchester Senior Center: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri daytime hours

The Manchester Senior Center is an AARP Tax-Aide site.  Knowledgeable AARP volunteers certified by the IRS are offering tax counseling and tax preparation services.  Tax-Aide serves low and middle-income taxpayers with a special focus on those ages 60 and older.  All services are free of charge.  You do not have to be a member of the Manchester Senior Center.  The program begins on Monday, February 2nd and will continue until April 15th.  Volunteers will be in the Manchester Senior Center cafeteria on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Walk-ins

Bring all tax information with you.  If you have used this service in the past, please bring your computer disc or forms from last year. 

Manchester Community College: Friday daytime hours - Drop In

Weiss Center: Monday, Tuesday & Friday daytime hours

Free tax preparation and filing is being offered at the Weiss Center on Mondays Tuesday and Fridays through April 15, 2009 (Appointments are Required   647-3095).  The service is being offered by Community Renewal Team staff and is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site.

CITIZENS MAY CALL THE TOWN HUMAN SERVICES OFFICE 647-3092 WITH QUESTIONS. ALSO LOOK ON CABLE CHANNEL 16 FOR THE 2009 KICK OFF EVENT PROGRAM.
