In the 1970's the JC Penney Company was seeking a location for its northeastern warehouse distribution facility. The State of Connecticut and the Town of Manchester aggressively pursued the JC Penney facility and in order to provide a suitable location, developed the Buckland Industrial Park.

The Buckland Industrial Park, located at the intersection of I-291 and I-84, includes over 340 acres of industrial property. Anchored by the JC Penney Warehouse Distribution Facility, it also includes Hartford Distributors, a 300,000 square foot warehouse and distribution facility, a major platic gear and injection molding facility, and smaller machine shops and manufacturers.
