Manchester Charter Revision Commission to Hold Public Hearing

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Charter Revision Commission will hold a public hearing on September 20, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room.  The Commission held one public hearing in July that was sparsely attended.  A second public hearing has been scheduled for September 20 with the intent of garnering additional public input regarding the Town Charter.

The Town Charter defines the form of government for the Town and sets out the roles and responsibilities of most elected and appointed officials.  It also codifies the basic framework for how government is conducted, such as the processes for adopting ordinances and the town budget.  Periodically, the Charter is updated through the Charter Revision process.

The Manchester Board of Directors appointed the current Charter Revision Commission on May 15, 2007.  In its charge to the Commission, the Board of Directors recommended among other things, a review of Standards of Official Conduct, consideration of the Town’s use of eminent domain, review of the budget adoption process, and review of the process for electing the Mayor.

Citizens can participate in the process by attending the public hearing on September 20 or by submitting written comments to the Commission.  Complete information on the Charter Revision Process can be viewed at www.townofmanchester.org/bod/charter.
