Repairs to Main Street (Route 83) Roadway / Rail Grade Crossing in Manchester
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced that Connecticut Southern Railroad is proposing to reconstruct the Main Street roadway/railroad grade crossing, just north of the Woodbridge Street intersection next weekend.
The work will involve the replacement of the rubberized crossing surface along the active rail line. It will also involve the removal of an abandoned rail. The roadway approaches to the crossing will be repaved.
The work is scheduled to occur on Sunday, October 26th and continue through Tuesday, October 28, 2008.
This work will require Main Street to be closed to traffic, between Woodbridge Street and North Main Street, beginning on October 26th, at approximately 6:00 A.M. Main Street will remain closed through Monday night. In the event of inclement weather, the same schedule will be followed starting November 2, 2008.
During construction, traffic will be detoured onto Woodbridge Street and Oakland Street. Town police officers will be stationed at the Main Street/Woodbridge Street and Woodbridge Street/Oakland Street intersections during the duration of the closure. Access to businesses will remain open.
