Program for Seniors: On February 17, 2009, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Manchester Senior Center, Kathleen Porter RN, BSN - ECHN’s Woman's Health Coordinator will present “You Have Only One Heart…Take Good Care Of It And It Will Take Good Care Of You.” This event is free and open to Manchester residents age 60 and older.
Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation's No. 1 killer. Heart disease is also the major cause of disability. The most common heart disease in the United States is coronary artery disease, which often appears as a heart attack. In 2008 it is estimated that 770,000 Americans will have had a new coronary attack, and about 430,000, will have had a recurrent attack. About every 26 seconds an American will have a coronary event, and about one every minute will die from one. The chance of developing coronary artery disease can be reduced by taking steps to prevent and control factors that put people at greater risk.
