Get Ready to Go Red!

Circle Friday Feb. 5th in red on your calendars – that’s the day the Town of Manchester will join the American Heart Association’s (AHA) fight against heart disease by holding Wear Red Day.

Mayor Lou Spadaccini has issued a proclamation declaring February as American Heart Month and encourages everyone to support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 5, 2010. This observance promotes the Red Dress symbol and provides an opportunity for everyone to unite in this life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or Red Dress Pin.

The Manchester Health Department is recognizing “Go Red Day” at Town Hall Customer Service and the Manchester Senior Center. Manchester residents and employees who wear red on February 5 can stop by either site and pick up a free Heart Health Awareness gift pack.

Other events in recognition of American Heart Month sponsored by the Health Department include a Free Family and Friends CPR Course at the Manchester Senior Center on February 9, 2010 at 9:00 AM for Manchester Seniors. Space is limited.  Please call (860) 647-3173 to register. The Manchester Health Department is sponsoring FREE cholesterol screening and counseling on February 24, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM for Manchester Seniors. Appointments are necessary and space is limited.  Please call (860) 647-3173 to register. Lastly, on February 25, 2010, Maryla Underwood RN from the VNA is presenting - Coping with Cardiac Disease at 1:00 at the Manchester Senior Center.

Thank you in advance for supporting this lifesaving program!
