Downtown Manchester Scarecrow Festival & Halloween Happenings - A Safe Downtown Manchester Trick-or-Treat

Visitors to Downtown Manchester during the month of October will be greeted by an assortment of straw-filled characters and tiny trick-or-treaters.

Downtown will host its 4th Annual Downtown Scarecrow Festival from Mon. Oct. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 28. Festive, funny and whimsical Fall folk will line the streets of the downtown for the 3rd Annual Downtown Manchester Scarecrow Festival. Handmade scarecrows will be on display in over 30 locations up and down Main Street. Scarecrow artists include individuals, businesses, schools, civic groups and even town staff.

Scarecrow “strollers” are encouraged to bring their cameras. A plump “Picture Pumpkin”, located next the Mary Cheney Library, is perfect for photo ops.

Scarecrow fans will be able to vote for their favorite scarecrow through Oct. 25 at one of eight locations along Main Street displaying a “People’s Choice Scarecrow Voting Location” sign. Locations include:

  • Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St.
  • Great Harvest Bread Co., 809 Main St.
  • Silk City Antiques & Decor, 845 Main St.
  • MCC on Main, 903 Main St.
  • Anne Miller Real Estate, 975 Main St.
  • Salon Petit, 968 Main St.
  • Pinewood Furniture, 1115 Main St.

Fans will also be able to view and vote for their Facebook Favorite scarecrow. They can find us on Facebook at Downtown Manchester Scarecrow Festival.

The winners of the People’s Choice and Facebook Favorite Scarecrow Contest will be announced at an awards ceremony on Sat. Oct. 27 at 11am by the Dancing Bears fountain next to the Mary Cheney Library.

Scarecrow Festival Program Flyers, which include a map and list of scarecrow locations as well as other activities taking place in and around the Downtown during the month of October, will be available at selected Downtown businesses beginning Oct. 1.

The Scarecrow Festival will culminate with the annual Halloween Happenings - A Safe Downtown Manchester Trick-or-Treat on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Additional activities taking place include:

Christina the Magician’s free Magic Show for all ages from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St. Manchester - 860-645-0577.

Pumpkin Decorating from 11:30am to 1pm - at the Manchester Antique Mall, 811 Main St. Sponsored by the Manchester Antiques Mall. Children will be able to decorate small pumpkins.

A Safe Children’s Downtown Trick-or-Treat will take place from 11:30am to 1pm throughout the Downtown. Children may visit Downtown businesses displaying a “Welcome Trick-or-Treaters” sign and receive assorted treats.

The spirit of the Downtown Trick-or-Treat will be captured with a large group photo of trick-or-treaters to be taken in Center Memorial Park by John Garaventa of Garaventa Photography. The photo will be taken at 1pm, at the conclusion of the Trick-or-Treat.

The Children’s Costume Parade will return this year. The Parade will march-off from Center Park at 1:15pm, immediately following the Trick-or-Treat, ending at Bennet Academy. A Chevy Silverado Pick-up Truck, courtesy of Carter of Manchester, will lead the Parade carrying favorite Halloween characters.

All activities are rain or shine except the photo and parade.
