Manchester taxes can be paid online

December 24, 2008---The Town of Manchester announced back in July that Manchester taxpayers have the ability to pay their tax bills online, in addition to paying by mail or in person.  Water & Sewer payments may also be made online.  Online payments can be made with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover Card, or E-check.

Effective immediately, due to a negotiated change in this process, the Town of Manchester is happy to announce that we can now provide tax online payments with E-checks at a drastically reduced fee of 40 cents per transaction.  The previous fee for tax payments online with e-checks had been $3.00 per transaction.

Taxpayers will need to input their tax bill number, which is located on their tax bill, in order to make a payment online; tax payments cannot be made online without the bill number.  The tax bill number will begin with the number “2007” followed by a space, then a two digit number, followed by a space, then a seven digit number.   Taxpayers may make partial payments online or pay their installment or balance online.  Due date, interest charges, etc., where applicable, are the same for online payments as for over-the-counter payments, however, an additional 2.75% convenience fee will apply to all credit card payments made online; and the fee for tax payments with E-checks, as noted, has been reduced to $0.40.  Please note that if a taxpayer owes back taxes, it is strongly recommended that they contact the Office of Assessment and Collection at 860-647-3018 regarding their tax amount as back taxes must be paid first before current taxes are paid online.  In addition, taxpayers who require a clearance in order to re-register a motor vehicle are urged to pay their taxes at Town Hall, rather than online, so that the Town can provide the necessary clearance document.

For additional information, or to make an online payment please visit our website at www.townofmanchester.org

The Manchester Tax Collector’s Office also reminds residents that current tax payments are due by 6:00 pm on Monday February 2, 2009. Current taxes include the second installment for Real Estate and Personal property. Some taxpayers will be receiving Motor Vehicle Supplemental bills for vehicles registered after October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. Failure to make timely payments will subject taxpayers to an interest charge of 1.5% per month from the due date of January 1, 2009 (the minimum interest charge is $2.00).

Please note that there is no mailing for January Real estate and Personal Property bills. A coupon for January was included with the bills mailed last June. In addition to paying by mail or at the tax office, you may pay your current (not delinquent) tax bills at any Manchester branch of New Alliance Bank or at the Customer Service office located at Town Hall, 41 Center Street. Always bring your bill with you to ensure proper credit. A night drop box is also available at the handicap entrance at the rear of Town Hall. Save your receipts for income tax purposes.

The office of Assessment and Collection will be opened Monday-Friday from 8:20 AM to 4:40 PM with extended hours until 6:00 PM January 30th, and February 2nd.
